Job summary

Andover Public Schools seeks a Student Support Specialist at Andover High School to help monitor student safety and well-being and to support a positive, inclusive school environment. The role involves collaborative work with administration, counselors, and staff to promote students' success.

The specialist will supervise student flow, monitor areas around the building, assist with attendance, tardy procedures, and participate in Student Support Teams.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to take direction from administrators and work with staff to maintain a safe, inclusive environment.
• Ability to understand behavioral expectations and address student issues with staff involvement.
• Ability to work with adolescents and de-escalate potential confrontations; safety care training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote a welcoming, inclusive school environment at Andover High School.
• Supervise the flow of students in the building and on school grounds.
• Regularly check bathrooms, hallways, exits, and parking lots to ensure students are on task.
• Monitor students in the cafeteria during breakfast, lunch, and designated times for proper conduct.
• Support attendance efforts and communicate with students and parents.
• Assist with tardy procedures as outlined in the student handbook.
• Participate in Student Support Teams and related meetings.
• Sign in/out visitors and monitor detention when needed.
• Escort students to classes, offices, or other designated locations.
• Collect and compile student attendance and tardiness data.
• Assist offices with welcoming families and conducting tours.
