Job summary

Newton County Schools is seeking an Instructional Paraprofessional to support teachers by assisting with interventions, classroom activities, and student supervision.

The role requires an Associate’s Degree or higher (or HS diploma with paraprofessional certification) and a valid Paraprofessional Certificate. You will work under the supervision of teachers and the principal in a 184/10 schedule within a school location.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or two years of college OR HS diploma/GED with Paraprofessional Assessment Certification Test.
• Valid Paraprofessional Certificate.
• Ability to work well with adults and students and communicate effectively.
• Well organized with good time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual or small groups to provide intervention or enrichment activities as assigned by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in implementing strategies to reinforce material for individual students.
• Assist with documenting and applying classroom strategies for behavioral needs of students.
• Assist with supervision of students.
• Notify the teacher of any problems or information about students.
• Serve as information resource for substitute teachers in absence of the regular teacher.
• Review student responses on assignments accurately without recording grades.
• Assist with clerical tasks for the teacher as needed.
• Help prepare instructional materials, learning centers, and display/bulletin boards.
• Assist with ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials.
• Participate in training workshops required by the school system.
• Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and school information.
• Attend faculty and other required meetings.
• Maintain paraprofessional license as required by the Professional Standards Commission.
• Demonstrate positive working relationships with others.
• Possess physical ability for light to heavy lifting and stand/walk for at least six hours with breaks.
• Assist with classroom housekeeping and various school-wide duties (car rider, bus, lunchroom).
• Report to work regularly and on time.
• Perform other duties as required by the Principal.
