Job summary

West Virginia University Libraries is seeking an Access Services Student Supervisor for the Downtown Library. You will hire and supervise 20–30 student assistants, manage schedules, and oversee desk operations at the Downtown Access Services desk, including closing the library.

You will train students on stacks maintenance, assist with documentation, and evaluate performance. A Bachelor’s degree and library/customer service experience are required or substituted by relevant work history.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; substantial library or relevant work experience may substitute.
• Minimum of one year in library or relevant work experience.
• Minimum of six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Public / customer service experience is essential.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Hire, schedule, approve timesheets, evaluate, and direct 20–30 student assistants; prepare budget requests and track expenses.
• Provide initial training for students; develop task lists and ensure timely, accurate work; write evaluations.
• Develop and coordinate a comprehensive training program with partner libraries to align with goals and policies.
• Oversee desk operations outside standard hours and ensure user and building safety; close the library.
• Respond to user questions and assist with basic reference, databases, and finding materials.
• Provide service and respond to ILL and printing/technology questions; manage poster printing.
