Job summary

James Madison University Libraries seeks a qualified Student Coordinator to join the Library & Information Services team within the Access & User Services department. The role focuses on student employee scheduling and co-supervising approximately 50–60 student workers across Carrier and Rose Library service points.

The successful candidate reports to the Director of Access & User Services, supports day-to-day operations, and staffs service points with LIS, A&D, and Music colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Co-coordinate student employment for Carrier and Rose Library Service point operations, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, and offboarding, for approximately 50-60 student employees.
• Lead development and maintenance of student employee scheduling, including developing and maintaining policies and procedures documentation.
• Develop student staffing schedules for each semester that provide an appropriate amount of coverage and some flexibility to support operations at the Ask the Library desks and operations throughout the building (such as building counts and events support).
• Utilize staffing systems and software to optimize schedule management.
• Assess staff scheduling and building operations trends to determine areas of improvement for service point staff.
• Cross-train and be able to backup core functions of the other Student Coordinator.
• Provide direct user support through participation in Ask the Library service points.
• Support the AUS-LIS team through engaged participation in cross-training and backup of critical duties.
• Pursue professional development, creative activities, scholarship, and/or service activities.
