Stetson University’s duPont-Ball Library seeks an Afternoon Circulation Supervisor (part-time) to deliver excellent customer service at the Circulation Desk and to supervise Circulation student employees. You will support students with library materials, spaces, and services.

You’ll train and supervise student staff, manage circulation transactions in the library system, assist with technology circulation, and collaborate with librarians to maintain a welcoming, inclusive library environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred; ideal for advancement or related fields.
• Experience supervising student employees or staff is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and trains Circulation student assistants in department policies and procedures.
• Staffs the Circulation Desk as needed.
• Uses the library system to check out/in materials, renewals, and manage user records.
• Circulates technology, erases data, recharges devices, and reports issues.
• Ensures confidentiality policies and FERPA compliance.
• Organizes circulating tech and coordinates with staff on equipment maintenance.
• Collaborates with library staff on night/weekend coverage as needed.
• Assists patrons with computers, printers, copiers, and scanners.
• Keeps current with library tech and participates in committees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Afternoon Circulation Supervisor is a part‑time role that supports Stetson University by providing excellent customer service at the library’s Circulation Desk and supervising Circulation student employees which supports students using library research materials, spaces, and services. Serving as a member of the duPont-Ball Library Team, the Afternoon Circulation Supervisor supervises and trains library student employees and works collaboratively with co‑workers to provide oversight of circulation services and the library building. Works 25 hours per week, Mondays through Fridays. In alignment with Stetson’s Strategic Priorities, the Afternoon Circulation Supervisor will support student success by providing access to library materials, technology, and spaces while working in an inclusive library environment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Supervises student assistants and trains student assistants in the policies and procedures of the Circulation Department, in collaboration with other Circulation Department staff
• Staffs the Circulation Desk as needed
• Uses the circulation module of the library’s integrated library system for circulation‑related transactions, including checking out, checking in, renewing library materials, and creating and editing user records
• Employs special procedures for circulating technology, including erasing data, recharging devices, ensuring that contents are included when items are checked in and out, and reporting broken equipment
• Ensures compliance with confidentiality policies and FERPA requirements
• Organizes the library’s collection of circulating technology; trains student employees in using and resetting equipment; maintains equipment in coordination with the Director of Public Services, Digital Arts faculty members, and Accessibility Services staff
• Works collaboratively with other staff members and communicates effectively with Director of Public Services and staff on night or weekend shifts as necessary
• Answers questions from library patrons about library policies and procedures; answers basic reference questions and refers more complicated queries to the on‑call Research Librarian
• Assists patrons with the use of computers, printers, copier, and scanner; troubleshoots routine problems encountered by patrons in their use of library equipment
• Stays current with library and emerging technologies
• Engages in Library committees and programing activities to engage the University community
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent customer service skills, written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail and the ability to multitask
• Critical thinking skills and ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion
• Experience using databases, such as World Share Management System (WMS) or other integrated library system, and using productivity software such as Microsoft Office

Work Environment

The duPont-Ball Library is a typical academic library with spaces for collaboration, discussion, or independent study. Noise levels are at a medium level on the main floor where collaborative study is encouraged. The perimeter areas in the building are more conducive to independent study.

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally‑mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H‑1B petitions at this time.
