Job summary

City Year is seeking an entry-level City Year AmeriCorps member in Rhode Island to coach and mentor students across grade levels. You will partner with teachers to support instruction, monitor progress, and promote positive behaviors in school.

You will participate in 2–4 weeks of training, work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups, and help organize activities that foster literacy and math development, attendance improvements, and student engagement.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to promote academic success.
• Plan and monitor progress, support teachers with instruction and in-class student assistance.
• Develop literacy and math skills through varied activities and targeted support.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with teachers.
• Support school-wide initiatives and participate in after-school programming.
• Record and monitor student progress in City Year data systems and participate in reviews.
