Job summary

Southwest Virginia Community College seeks a Student Success Advisor to work with potential and current students to identify career pathways in academic and workforce programs matching interests and skills.

The role supports individuals in overcoming non-academic barriers, travels to off-site locations and local high schools, and requires a one-year probationary period. This is an in-person position, not remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education and experience.
• Knowledge of barriers to educational success and helping others reach their goals.
• Experience with diverse student populations.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Effective problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Proficient with technology including Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Desire to learn and grow as professional needs arise.

Responsibilities

• Travel to off-site locations and to local high schools as needed.
• Work closely with potential and enrolled students to identify career pathways in academic and workforce programs.
• Serve as a resource to assist individuals in overcoming non-academic barriers to education.
• Maintain records of outreach and interactions and connect students to college and community support services.
• Utilize technology solutions in addition to in-person interactions with students.
