Job summary

University of Hawai'i is seeking a Student Support Specialist on a casual hire basis at Hawai'i Community College - Student Affairs. This full-time temporary role supports program-eligible students with academic advising, financial aid counseling, career planning, and personal guidance.

Appointments may last up to 89 days for full-time, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time staff. The position involves coordinating peer mentors and training, organizing workshops, and building partnerships

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and one year of professional experience providing tutorial services, academic support, and advising.
• Equivalent education, training, or experience may be considered in lieu of the stated degree.

Responsibilities

• Provide support services to program-eligible college students in academic advising, financial aid/scholarship counseling, career planning, and personal guidance.
• Support in managing and overseeing student support services to ensure effective assistance to program participants.
• Assist in coordinating recruitment and selection of peer mentors, tutors, and project participants.
• Coordinate delivery of training and development for student employees and participants.
• Design and implement academic learning skills and personal development workshops.
• Organize and conduct academic survival, enrichment workshops, and cultural/social activities.
• Establish partnerships with staff, faculty, and community stakeholders to support participants.
• Assist in developing strategies to address educational barriers.
• Develop and maintain program data for assessments, reporting, and continuous improvement.
