Job summary

United Hospital Center (UHC) in Bridgeport, WV seeks a Respiratory Care Assistant to provide evaluation and care for respiratory therapy patients under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.

This role requires WV licensure or permit, BLS within 30 days, and the ability to operate oxygen and aerosol devices, perform spirometry, and assist with patient education. 4 hours weekly, on-site, non-exempt position.

Qualifications

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• WV: Student Respiratory Care Permit through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Set up and maintain low flow oxygen devices (<=6 LPM) including nasal cannula or simple mask.
• Set up and maintain aerosol devices with FiO2 <= 50%.
• Deliver medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer.
• Deliver medication via MDI or dry powder inhaler.
• Measure peak flow, simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry.
• Administer airway clearance devices/techniques: therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and PEP therapies.
• Communicate with the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.
• Assist with patient and family education alongside the healthcare team.
