Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Student Radiology Technologist in Columbia, SC. You will assist with imaging exams, support diagnostic procedures, perform clerical duties, and ensure high-quality patient care while enrolled in an approved Radiology program.

Upon ARRT registry completion, a promotion to Radiology Technologist is possible; benefits and sign-on bonus may apply depending on eligibility. This is an hourly, PRN role within MUHA’s Diagnostic Radiology department.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an accredited Radiology program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Performs diagnostic routine procedures (minor trauma, fluoroscopy, minor surgery, and routine studies).
  • Acquires requisitions and checks for appropriate clinical information.
  • Prepares room and supplies, and maintains patient comfort.
  • Explains procedures to patients and families; responds to delays and emergencies.
  • Operates PACS system and ensures studies are ready for archiving.
  • Maintains confidentiality and cleanliness of the room.
  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor and documents confirmations.

Student Radiology Technologist Job Duties
  • Performs all diagnostic routine procedures (minor trauma, fluoroscopy, minor surgery, and routine studies)
  • Acquires requisition and checks for appropriate clinical
  • Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient
  • Access patient's condition and level of cooperation and makes appropriate judgment of proper care
  • Notifies nurse and charts all infiltrates and reactions
  • Quality check films before sending to radiologist to include markers, all pertinent information needed for appropriate dictation
  • Writes additional information on request as needed
  • Keeps room cleaned and stocked at all times
  • Responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately
  • Explains procedure to patient and introduces self and identifies department
  • Informs patients and families of all delays
  • (Including calling inpatient's room when procedure is delayed more than 1 hour)
  • Assist other technologists when not busy in assigned area
  • Charges procedure and supplies when exam is completed
  • Adds surgical charges when needed
  • Operates the PAC's system appropriately and verify studies before sending to archive
  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor, in-charge tech and documents confirmation numbers
  • Maintain student confidentiality
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive
Student Radiology Technologist transition to Radiology Technologist

Upon completion of the ARRT radiology registry, a promotion will be awarded from a student tech position to a vacant radiology technologist position. The promotion wage increase will be based on passing the radiology tech registry. Benefits and sign on bonus will also be awarded if eligible based on position.
