UNC Health in Chapel Hill seeks a Student Nurse Extern I for the 5 Neurosciences unit. This temporary full-time role supports RN partners in patient care, with a rotating day/night schedule and 36 hours per week. The program runs May 24 – July 31, 2027, for prelicensure nursing students, under RN supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with admissions, routine care, vital signs, and safety. Enrollment in an approved nursing program and BLS are required.

Competenze

• High school diploma or GED; enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program.
• Current enrollment with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Nursing Assistant I listed with NC DHHS; BLS certification.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written).
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in patient care.
• Basic computer skills.

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports significant changes to a registered nurse.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides routine direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or provider.
• Assists in examinations and procedures; procures equipment and supplies during emergencies.
• Maintains clean work area, restocks supplies, and supports orientation of new staff and students.
