Job summary

UNC Health in Raleigh, NC offers a 10-week paid Student Nurse Externship Program for rising senior ADN and BSN students to gain hands-on clinical experience and to explore hospital-based care. This immersive experience strengthens nursing skills and supports transition to professional practice.

The program operates in the 7 West Acute Care General Surgery unit, working with an RN partner under direct supervision to provide patient care and learning opportunities within a diverse healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English.
• Ability to organize and prioritize patient care assignments.
• Basic computer skills.
• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
• CPR certification or training.

Responsibilities

• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care (vital signs, measurements, wound care, etc.).
• Assist with activities of daily living and transport of patients and supplies.
• Support learning and orientation of new employees and students under RN supervision.
