Job summary

UNC Health in Holly Springs is offering a 10-week Student Nurse Externship Program for rising senior ADN and BSN students. The paid externship provides hands-on clinical experience, mentorship with an RN partner, and exposure to medical-surgical and postoperative care in a growing unit.

Participants work full-time in a 40-hour week with supervision, learn patient care processes, safety practices, and basic nursing workflows while preparing for licensure and professional practice upon graduation.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English language.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in patient care.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs as part of patient handling.

Responsibilities

• Observe, document patient information and report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments per plan of care including vitals, wound care, ROM, and other tasks.
• Assist with activities of daily living and transport patients/supplies.
• Support unit operations, restock supplies, and maintain clean work areas.
• Reinforce routine patient teaching and assist providers during exams when needed.
