Job summary

Wellstar Health System invites current nursing students to join the Student Nurse Extern (SNE) program. The role provides bedside experience under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, advancing clinical skills in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Externs will assist with basic patient care, participate in rounds, and collaborate with the health care team while pursuing an RN degree. The program emphasizes compassionate care, professional communication, and safety in patient care.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and clinical exposure in an accredited nursing program.
• Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association.
• One clinical rotation completed in an acute care setting is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care under supervision of a registered nurse.
• Assist with hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and comfort measures.
• Perform hourly patient rounding and respond to call lights.
• Transport supplies, medications, and equipment as needed.
• Assist RN and healthcare team with care delivery.
• Follow infection control and PPE policies; maintain clean patient rooms.
