Student Learning Advocate: 2 Virtual positions and 1 Hybrid Position (2 days/ week rotating at our three farm campuses in Rensselaer, North Salem, and Trafalgar.)

Description: The Student Learning Advocate (SLA) is responsible for actively supporting students’ progress by identifying barriers to learning, advocating for necessary accommodations or interventions, connecting students with relevant resources, and empowering them to take ownership of their education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, track, and analyze student progress data weekly in Edgenuity (LMS) and Google Classroom.
  • Schedule and hold virtual meetings weekly with students who are behind pace.
  • Attend weekly and/or monthly virtual and in-person meetings.
  • Conduct virtual orientations and hold meet-and-greet in-person meetings with all new students.
  • Track all communication with students and families.
  • Contact parents/guardians via virtual meeting, in-person meeting, or phone call at least quarterly.
  • Schedule classes and discuss career and course plans in the Spring semester.
  • Make successful contact with each student via phone, text, virtual meeting, or in-person meeting at least biweekly.
  • Conduct a Welcome Back phone call, virtual meeting, or in-person contact each semester with returning students.

Hybrid SLA Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend Active Participation Day at the assigned campus every Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Support FFA meetings, activities, and events as needed.

Virtual SLA Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hold weekly Homeroom virtual meetings.
  • Hold weekly Study Hall virtual meetings.
  • Sponsor at least 1 virtual club.
  • Sponsor, plan, and attend at least 1 in-person field trip per semester.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Indiana teaching license preferred.
  • Experience working with students in grades 7-12 preferred.
  • Knowledge of Indiana graduation requirements a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Confidence in advocating for student needs.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and families and understand their unique perspectives.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Indiana to meet with students and families as needed (mileage reimbursement provided).
