Job summary

George Washington University is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor IV to lead classes on both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses. Instructors will schedule at least one class per week and foster a fun, inclusive environment for students, staff, faculty, and the surrounding community.

Responsibilities include demonstrating exercise techniques, maintaining equipment, following Campus Recreation policies, and participating in ongoing trainings to ensure quality instruction.

Qualifications

• Must hold applicable certifications, licenses, or degrees.
• Preferred CPR / AED / First Aid certification.
• Prior group fitness class experience.

The Department of Campus Recreation aims to provide fun, inclusive, and engaging recreational programming and facilities for the university’s diverse community in the areas of intramural and sport clubs, fitness and wellness instruction and informal recreational opportunities.

Position Specific Summary

Group Fitness Instructors lead group-based instruction for a variety of formats as part of Campus Recreation programming on both Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses. Instructors lead at least one class/week on a regular weekly schedule. They provide a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment for participants to explore movement and exercise.

General responsibilities include:

Standard Position Description

Students in this position are responsible for providing instruction in a traditional classroom setting for secondary education students, fitness class, continuing education class, or non-college credit courses. *Individuals instructing college credited courses must be hired through the Office Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships. Tasks may include: preparing lesson plans, providing and grading assignments, providing feedback, mentoring and encouraging students. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
