Job summary

KIPP NYC Public Schools is seeking a Prep Cook to join our on-site culinary team across Bronx, Brooklyn, or Manhattan campuses. You will assist in preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks for students and staff, following standardized recipes and safety guidelines.

The role emphasizes teamwork, high‑quality meal production, and a commitment to student health. This is a full-time, in-person position with on-site work five days a week, offering competitive hourly pay and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in a commercial kitchen or school nutrition program preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness practices.
• Food Handler's Certification preferred but not required on hire.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Prepare fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, and other menu components per recipes and schedules.
• Help prep ingredients for breakfast, lunch, snack service, and events.
• Portion and serve meals to students and staff with a welcoming, customer-focused approach.
• Maintain knowledge of menu items, ingredients, allergens, and proper food handling.
• Support catering events and daily kitchen operations as needed.
• Assist in all areas of food production and meal service as required.
