Job summary

Vermont State University is seeking a Financial Aid & Billing Support Specialist to serve as the primary escalation point for complex student questions. You will coordinate with Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and the Registrar to connect students with needed resources and guidance.

You will counsel diverse student populations, including veterans and international students, on financial needs and available options, via in-person, email, or phone communications.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in appropriate discipline with two to four years relevant experience, or experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
• Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline with two to four years relevant experience, or experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
• Experience with financial aid processes and billing questions is preferred.
• Ability to learn and use campus technologies and systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of escalation from admissions counselors, advisors, or other student success staff for students with financial aid, billing, or payment questions.
• Handle escalated questions related to estimated family contribution, financial aid awards, parent plus loans, payment plan setup, FAFSA needs, and verification.
• Respond to escalated student questions related to student billing, payment, and financing for special populations such as veterans or international students.
• Counsel prospective and returning students and parents on financial needs and available resources via in person, email or phone.
• Work with veterans or international students on certification paperwork and internal processing.
