Job summary

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to guide students and families through the federal, state, and institutional aid processes, helping them understand options and deadlines.

You will evaluate awards, process required documents, maintain knowledge of regulations, and provide on-demand counseling, classroom and outreach support to promote educational access.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Computer Science, Social Science or related field.
• Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
• Knowledge and experience in using a large database system.
• Ability to process and maintain information that is often ambiguous and highly confidential.
• Must understand and adhere to confidentiality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel students and families regarding the financial aid process via calls, letters, emails, and in-person interactions.
• Evaluate and review financial aid awards, process required documentation, and respond to inquiries.
• Exercise independent judgment to adjust financial aid profiles per regulations and policies.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and institutional policies.
• Interpret and revise financial aid packages from private, institutional, state, and federal sources.
• Cross-train with other staff for backup support.
• Rotate with other personnel for on-demand and walk-in advising.
• Participate in College Night events to promote financial aid information.
