Job summary

Proviso East High School is seeking a Speech Assistant Coach to support student activities under the Director of Athletics and Activities. The role emphasizes organization, leadership, and mentorship to ensure a safe, engaging extracurricular experience for students.

The stipend position is non-tenure and contingent on enrollment, program approval, and funding. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and collaborative skills and may hold a valid IL license or educator certification.

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with students in a school setting.
• Willingness to take responsibility for all duties associated with the position.
• Preferred: Valid Illinois PEL, Substitute Teaching License, Retired educator, or Educator-Related Certification.
• Previous sponsorship or supervisory experience with school-based activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide active supervision for club activities, meetings, events, field trips, and practices, ensuring student safety and compliance with district policies.
• Ensure all off-campus activities are approved through district procedures and that permission slips and transportation arrangements are completed per Board policy.
• As a mandated reporter, comply with training and reporting obligations under state law and district policy.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the activity and provide constructive feedback to support student development.
• Coordinate logistics and facility usage to ensure well-organized and safe events.
• Promote student involvement and model positive interpersonal relationships among students and staff.
• Maintain open, professional communication with stakeholders regarding club operations and events.
• Attend sponsor-related meetings and represent the school/ district with professionalism.
