Job summary

UVU's Academic Tutoring invites current students to become certified peer tutors who support peers in navigating course content, focusing on gateway major courses. Tutors work one-on-one or in groups to foster exploration and lifelong learning.

In addition to face-to-face sessions, tutors may be assigned to online labs, contribute to class visits, create handouts, design workshops, and participate in Studypalooza while maintaining confidentiality and adapting to diverse student needs.

Qualifications

• Must be a current UVU student.
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA.
• Grade of B or higher in ENGR 2010, ENGR 2030, and ENGR 2140.
• Preferred: Grade of A in ENGR 2010, ENGR 2030, and ENGR 2140.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with students to enhance content knowledge.
• Communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner.
• Read, write, and convey ideas in English.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Cultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
• Contribute to the smooth operation of tutoring labs and participate in ongoing training.
• Conduct class visits, create and update handouts, design workshops, and contribute to Studypalooza.

Job description

Academic Tutoring at UVU is seeking student tutors who will work one-on‑one and with groups to help students navigate the challenges of their assigned courses and content material. Academic Tutoring embraces the power of students helping students and supports all individuals— regardless of identity, culture, point of view, or background—as they navigate the challenges associated with their educational goals. With a focus on gateway major courses, certified peer tutors work alongside each student to foster serious exploration and inspire lifelong learning.On top of face‑to‑face appointment, tutors may be assigned to the online tutoring lab or in other labs across campus. Tutors are also expected to contribute to certain Academic Tutoring initiatives like conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, designing workshops, and contributing to Studypalooza at the end of the semester.

Must Be

• Must be a current UVU student
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA
