Job summary

The University of New Mexico invites undergraduate students to join the Engineering Student Success Center as tutors for engineering and computer science coursework. Tutors provide in-person assistance in Centennial Engineering Center (building #112) and support students during walk-in sessions.

Applicants must be enrolled at UNM pursuing a bachelor's degree in a STEM field, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and have passed the relevant courses with a B or higher.

Qualifications

  • Current UNM student pursuing a bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher required.
  • Interest in helping others learn technical subjects and ability to explain concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals or small groups on a walk-in basis.
  • Explain concepts, suggest approaches, and guide students through solutions.
  • Keep up with course assignments to prepare students for quizzes and exams.
  • Encourage teamwork and help students form study groups.
  • Coordinate with the department to track student data for administrative purposes.

Position Summary: Seeking to hire undergraduate student tutor that can assistwith Engineering and Computer Science undergraduate coursework within theSchool of Engineering.The following peer tutoring services areprovided by the UNM Engineering Student Success Center in-person in theCentennial Engineering Center (building #112).

Tutors are responsible for providing assistance forstudents with homework problems or other class assignments for courses such as:Math 1220, 1230, 1240, 1250, 1512, 1522, 2531, 311, 312, 313, 314, 316, 321; CE202 or 302; ECE 131, 203, 206L, 213, 238L, 300, 314, 321L, 340, 344L, 360, 381;CS 151L and 261; Physics 1310, 1320, and 2310; Chemistry 1215, 1225, or 301;CBE 251, 253, 302, 311, 317, 371; ME 150,160L, 217, 260L, 301, 306, 317, 318L,357, 380, 416/516, 459;

  • Working with individuals or in small group setting on a walk-in basis;
  • As necessary, explains or clarifies the principles involved, suggests possible approaches to solve each problem and guides thestudents in carrying out a solution;
  • Keeping abreast of assignments in the course and preparing students for quizzes and exams;
  • Encouraging students to help and work together, fostering teamwork, with the goal of creating their own study groups;
  • Coordinate with the department in order to track student customer data for administrative purposes.

  • Currentenrollment at UNM in a programleading to a bachelor's degreeineither: Engineering,
  • Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics, with at least a cumulative 3.0GPA;
  • Musthave passed, with a grade ofB or higher, in the course you areassigned to tutor;
  • Aninterest in helping others learn technical subjects, combined with abilityto analyze, simplify, explain and quantify physical situations or problemsand to motivate others to learn how to dealwith them,practically;
  • Excellentcustomer service and communication skills;
  • Comfortablewith interfacing and instructing through Zoom depending on availability.
