Job summary

University of Portland is seeking a Student Accounts Specialist in Portland, OR to deliver quality customer service to students, families, and campus partners. You will handle student accounts, payments, refunds, and inquiries, while supporting daily account balances and transactional processing.

The role reports to the Assistant Director of Student Accounts and requires attention to detail, confidentiality, and effective communication across channels.

Qualifications

• Required: Associates Degree.
• Required: One year of relevant experience in Student Accounts or cashier related experience.
• Preferred: Experience with Banner enterprise system.
• Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service and thorough communication on a variety of topics and issues related to Student Accounts to University students, staff, parents, and community members.
• Respond to inquiries through in-person and various communication methods including phone and email.
• Handle a variety of difficult customer situations and disputes while using sensitivity, diplomacy, and patience.
• Provide administrative and transactional support on behalf of the university including but not limited to processing student payments and refunds, and assisting students or parents with questions regarding their accounts.
• Perform daily review of Student Account balances.
• Process and monitor financial transactions. Perform backup cashiering and refunding functions for student accounts, following specific University procedures and policies.
• Maintain Student Accounts email account, respond to inquiries and take appropriate action as required and elevating to Supervisor as needed.
• Provide support and information to Student Accounts staff, providing back-up to other Student Accounts Specialists.
• May assist with the supervision and training of student employees as assigned by the Director of Student Accounts. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring processes, setting of expectations, training and professional development, performance management and evaluations, timesheet approval and disciplinary processes including up to termination of employment.
