Job summary

The Ohio State University is hiring a Student Assistant Meat Processor for the FAES Animal Sciences-JM Meat Lab. The position is temporary, with first shift hours totaling 10 per week. No prior experience is required, and training is provided on-site.

You will assist with slaughter, cutting and labeling of meat, and perform sanitation under HACCP and USDA FSIS regulations. There may be opportunities to assist with classes, research, and extension events.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food animal slaughter, cutting and processing of sellable cuts.
• Label meat products and maintain proper labeling.
• Perform sanitation and follow HACCP, USDA FSIS regulations, SSOPs, GMPs and CCPS in Meat Lab.
• Help prepare lab for classes and assist in research or extension events.
• Manage inventory and assist with sales inventory as needed.

Student Assistant Meat Processor

Student employees will perform and assist with food animal slaughter, cutting and processing of sellable cuts, along with labeling of meat products. Employees will also perform sanitation, learn HACCP, learn USDA -FSIS food safety regulations and follow all SSOPS, GMPS and CCPS of Meat Lab. Employees may also assist with preparing lab for classes, aiding in research in the lab space, aiding in extension events. Inventory management and sales inventory are also job duties that employees may be asked to do.

Additional Information:

Qualifications needed: Ability to show up on time, work independently or in group, complete a task in a timely and efficient manner, basic math skills, ability to move/lift 40 pounds, ability to multitask is helpful.

All training is done in person, on the job.

No experience needed.
