Norfolk State University invites applications for student workers to assist in the AT LAB, reading and scribing for fellow students and learning to use essential software tools.
As a lab assistant, you will help with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Reader, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, screen enlargement and screen reading software, and MathType, while supporting staff with daily tasks and paperwork.
Seeking all students but need Juniors and Seniors capable of reading and scribing for students. Learn to use required software in AT LAB i.e. Microsoft office suite, Adobe acrobat, adobe reader, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, screen enlargement software, screen reading software and mathtype. Assist students with printing, scanning and using computer software. Follow all rules posted within the lab environment. Assisting staff with filing, documentation and paperwork as needed. Working up to 6-8 hours a week. Workers will need to clean after work stations are used.
Qualifications: Students must be awarded work-study for the 2026 Fall term. Students should have a professional appearance and demeanor; they must be dependable. Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the basis of the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
Norfolk State University conducts background checks on all candidates identified as a finalist for employment consideration.
