Overview

The Structural Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the College’s structures and fixtures through a combination of carpentry, masonry, painting, and general building maintenance tasks.

Work Schedule

Work Days: Monday‑Friday
Shift Start/End Time: 7:30AM – 4:30PM
Hours Per Week: 40
Weeks Per Year: 52

Position Purpose

Maintains and repairs structures and fixtures on campus using a range of materials—including wood, concrete, mortar, and more. Applies paints, stains to interior and exterior surfaces and performs minor electrical and plumbing repairs as needed. Proactively identifies and executes preventative maintenance measures to uphold structural integrity.

Responsibilities
  • Structural Repairs: Execute repairs on structures and fixtures using wood and related building materials; perform repairs with concrete, mortar, stone, bricks, CMU, tile, and other materials.
  • Painting and Finishing: Apply paints, stains, and finishes to interior and exterior building surfaces; prepare surfaces and select materials for high‑quality finish.
  • Minor Electrical and Plumbing Repairs: Conduct minor electrical and plumbing repairs; troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Identify potential issues; elevate to supervisor when appropriate; perform preventative maintenance and collaborate with maintenance staff to develop schedules.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus journey‑level accomplishment in masonry and/or carpentry trades.
  • At least 4 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and work experience.
  • Safety‑conscious, ability to lift 50 pounds, comfort working at heights and in confined spaces, stamina for extended physical activity.
  • Proven experience in carpentry, masonry, and general construction work.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying paints, stains, and finishes.
  • Familiarity with electrical and plumbing systems for minor repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proactive mindset in identifying and addressing maintenance needs.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate: $25–$30 per hour. Wage determined by qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
