Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years (or 4,000 hours) in carpentry, masonry, painting, locksmith, or general maintenance.
• Strong verbal and written communication; able to work independently.
• Ability to lift and carry 80 lbs; climb ladders; operate power/hand tools.
• Valid Driver’s License and background check clearance required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Summary

Perform a variety of skilled tasks involved in building maintenance; participate in providing structural, basic lock work, electrical, plumbing, heating ventilating & air-conditioning(HVAC) and preventive maintenance of campus facilities and systems to ensure efficient and continuous operation. The incumbent is subject to periodically being on-call on a scheduled basis. The position is also considered to be essential during emergency situations and is subject to being requested to report to work.

Supervision

This position reports to and will receive day-to day direction, guidance and supervision from the Structural Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor.

Duties

1. Serve as point of contact for department during second shift. Respond to emergent needs identified by campus community members.
2. Provide assistance with repairs and the maintenance of buildings, systems and equipment.
3. Perform duties and responsibilities congruent with department goals, energy conservation and in support of institutional goals.
4. Read and follow blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine methods of repair. Compile a material/parts list, when necessary.
5. Prepare, patch, finish and maintain surfaces within buildings.
6. Operate a vehicle and various equipment; participate in making minor repairs to keep equipment operational; inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work.
7. Assist in ensuring security of vehicles, tools and other equipment.
8. Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
9. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.
10. Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.
11. Participate in workshops, seminars, training sessions and staff meetings as directed.
12. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years or 4,000 hours of work experience in the construction trades (carpentry, masonry, painting, locksmith, etc) and/or general maintenance. Good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to lift and carry 80 lbs., ability to climb a ladder, and the experience and ability to operate power/hand tools. A valid Driver’s License and adherence to the policies set forth by Office of Risk Management required along with successful completion of a background check.

Work Environment

Most of the work is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor/outdoor environment. The incumbent must be able to operate power/hand tools and computers or tablets used in day-to-day operation of duties. The incumbent may be required to use scaffolding, lifts, climb ladders and stand for long periods of time while using power/hand tools and equipment. Personal Protection Equipment, safety shoes and safety-based clothing and equipment may be required. All tools and footwear provided.

This position is 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Rate

$23.06 - $24.75
