Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY is seeking a Structural Specialist to maintain and repair campus structures and fixtures. The role combines carpentry, masonry, painting, and basic electrical/plumbing tasks to keep facilities safe and functional.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, 4+ years in masonry or carpentry, and the ability to work independently or in a team. Safety-conscious with the stamina for physical work and heights.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with journey-level accomplishment in masonry and/or carpentry trades.
• Safety-conscious with ability to lift 50 pounds and work at heights/in confined spaces.
• Proven experience in carpentry, masonry, and general construction work.
• Familiarity with electrical/plumbing for minor repairs and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Execute repairs on structures and fixtures using wood and related materials (concrete, mortar, tile, CMU, brick).
• Apply paints, stains, and finishes to interior/exterior surfaces; prep surfaces for high-quality finishes.
• Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs; troubleshoot and resolve issues within structures.
• Proactively identify maintenance needs and collaborate on schedules with facilities staff.
