Job summary

McMillen, Inc. seeks a Structural Project Engineer with 5–10 years of experience focused on water resource projects such as dams, hydropower, fisheries, and flood control.

The role involves spanning feasibility to commissioning, collaborating with engineers, environmental staff, and construction teams across the United States and Canada. The successful candidate will perform design, analysis, and documentation, develop CAD drawings, and provide on-site construction support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural or civil engineering from an accredited university.
• Master's degree in structural engineering.
• 5+ years of experience as a structural engineer.
• Professional licensure (P.E. or P.Eng.) preferred.
• Experience with water resource infrastructure projects including fishery related work, hydropower, dams, water conveyance, and pump stations.
• Experience with FEA modeling software (ABAQUS or ANSYS/LS-DYNA).
• Knowledge of seismic loads analysis and relevant methods.
• Familiarity with ASCE7, ACI 318/350, AISC 360/341; familiarity with FERC/USACE/USBR codes.
• Strong communication, technical and analytical skills.
• Travel up to 15% of time to project sites and client locations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design documentation reports, technical memoranda, and other reports.
• Evaluate and apply advanced structural design techniques and criteria.
• Perform structural computations by hand and with design software.
• Develop project details and drawings by hand or CAD.
• Edit project specifications and assist with the Project Manual.
• Support construction phase services, including submittals and on-site inspections.
• Develop FEA models and present results to clients clearly.
• Evaluate and manage planning, design, and construction support services.
• Collect field data and assess existing conditions for design criteria.
• Provide mentorship to other engineering staff.
