Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking current students for a 2027 Spring Co-op in our Oakland office. You will work side-by-side with industry-leading experts in the office and in the field, applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges and gaining hands-on experience.

You will assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, design and analysis, while developing skills in report writing and client deliverables under supervision. Travel and heights may be involved.

Qualifications

• Students should have an interest in civil and or structural engineering.
• Maintain high grades and seek hands-on learning in a consulting engineering environment.
• Enthusiastic about developing sophisticated engineering work products with professionalism.
• Strong communication abilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, drafting, design and analysis.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, develop test protocols and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers on reconnaissance of structures and field tests.
• Organize field data and assist with research to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Prepare client deliverables including construction documents and reports.
• Work may include travel and working from heights.
