Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a mid-level Structural (Buildings) Engineer to work from Seattle, WA (and other locations including Denver, CO; Tacoma, WA; Portland, OR; San Diego, CA; or Virginia Beach, VA). The role supports federal programs on building projects, offering opportunities to lead design work, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

The candidate should have 5+ years of post-education experience, a PE license, and strong knowledge of structural codes and software

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of post-education experience in analysis and design of building structures.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Proficient knowledge of structural codes and design standards.
  • Experience with structural calculations, drawings, and design documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel as required; must be able to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform structural analysis and design of new and existing buildings, including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and components.
  • Develop structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and design documentation using site observations and reports.
  • Perform engineering calculations and use software to evaluate building loads and member connections per codes and project criteria.
  • Develop design concepts, select systems and materials, and coordinate with architecture, civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection teams.
  • Prepare complete structural calculations, drawings, specs, reports, and BIM models.
  • Lead or support site visits and construction-phase services, review submittals, and respond to RFIs while following safety procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality review for junior staff's work.
  • Complete required company, safety, and project-specific training.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
  • Possess ability to work beyond standard hours when project needs require.
