Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Structural (Buildings) Engineer to join our Federal Programs AEC Team across multiple U.S. locations including Denver, Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, or Virginia Beach.

The role offers broad exposure from design through construction-phase support and mentorship from experienced engineers. You will contribute to structural analysis, drawings, specs, and coordination with multiple disciplines to deliver meaningful federal-project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 0 to 1 year of relevant structural engineering experience, including internship or co‑op.
• Analytical mindset with ability to research codes, standards, design criteria, and project requirements.
• Basic familiarity with structural building codes and design standards.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self‑leadership with attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to meet objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, software, and drafting tools.
• Familiarity with software like RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Concept, SAFE, Revit, AutoCAD.
• Commitment to safety and company policies.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide mentorship and participation in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination.
• Assist with structural analysis and design of new and existing buildings including gravity and lateral systems.
• Develop structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and design documentation.
• Perform routine structural calculations using engineering software.
• Coordinate structural requirements with other disciplines.
• Prepare complete structural calculations and building information models.
• Participate in site visits and construction-phase services, documenting conditions.
• Complete required company and project training.
• Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and safety policies.
• Perform additional responsibilities as needed by business.
