Summary
The Streets Technician 1 must be a hardworking, self-motivated, dependable individual able to work without supervision, who enjoys working with the public. This position is responsible for a variety of duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Streets Department. The Streets Technician I shall work at the direction of the Streets Department Supervisor and Lead Streets Technician.
Hours: Monday through Thursday 6:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday 5:00 am to 9:00 am, with additional hours as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud.
Additional Hours: Will be required to perform on-call duty, work weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate Town vehicles and all equipment such as motor grader, excavator, snowplow, dump trucks, loaders, street sweeper, mowers, etc.
- Perform all phases of street maintenance, including patching, crack sealing, storm drain cleaning, roadside and alley clean-up, mowing weeds, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, barricades, pavement marking.
- Perform work at the Town Cemetery, including grave excavations and maintenance activities.
- Install and remove barricades and cones during street maintenance; work as a certified flagger.
- Assist all Public Works Departments and perform additional duties as directed by the Public Works Operations Manager.
- Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain daily activity records and maintenance logs as required.
- Employ safety practices and procedures.
- Maintain effective and courteous working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Streets Supervisor or Lead Streets Technician.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work well with others and the public.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and manuals; write reports.
- Effective communication skills for presenting information and responding to questions in various settings.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to operate trimmers and mowers safely.
Education
- High School diploma or GED required.
Work Experience
- Street Technician I: Experience helpful but not required.
- Streets Technician II: 1-2 years of streets maintenance experience required.
- Streets Technician III: 2-4 years of streets maintenance experience required.
Certificates and Licenses
- Valid Colorado Driver’s license (Class C); ability to obtain Class B with air brakes and tanker within 180 days.
- Ability to complete flagger training within 30 days.
- Complete LTAP signing, pavement markings, and MUTCD classes within 180 days.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months.

Physical Demands
- May include reading, climbing stairs, crouching, grasping, gripping, handling, kneeling, pinching, pulling, pushing, lifting (up to 100 lbs), reaching, repetitive motions, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and carrying/lifting.
