Job summary

The City of Topeka’s Street division seeks a Street Maintenance Worker Trainee. This entry-level position offers hands-on training and a company-paid path to obtain a Class A CDL by six months. Training, study time, and equipment are provided, with duties including street and sidewalk maintenance and snow/ice control.

Position is year-round and essential; after-hours emergency work is required. Starting wage is $19.97/hr, increasing to $20.43/hr after probation.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor in maintenance of street surfaces, curbs and gutters, and snow/ice control.
• Engage in pick-and-shovel work, asphalt patching, and crack sealing.
• Place concrete, spread rock, and transport construction materials.
• Operate snow and ice removal equipment as needed.
