City of Topeka is seeking a Street Maintenance Worker Trainee to perform a range of street maintenance tasks and learn critical skills for progression. This entry-level role includes company-paid time for CDL acquisition and hands-on training to develop capacity for advancement.

Incumbents will participate in snow/ice removal and routine maintenance tasks, with pay starting at $19.97 per hour and rising after the six-month probation period.

Qualifications

• Six-month probation period and CDL training to be completed by conclusion of probation.

Job description

The City of Topeka's Street division is seeking a hard-working individual to join its team as a Street Maintenance Worker Trainee. Incumbents in this position perform a variety of manual labor in the maintenance of street surfaces, curbs and gutters, and snow and ice control. Work includes pick and shovel work, asphalt patching, crack sealing, placing concrete, spreading rock, transporting construction material, and operating snow and ice removal equipment.

This is an entry-level position with an excellent field training program to assist incumbents in obtaining the skills needed for advancement. Trainees will receive training and assistance on company-paid time to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL), which is required by the conclusion of the six-month initial hire probationary period. Training, study time, and equipment are all provided by the City.

This is steady, year-round employment. This is considered an essential position, and incumbents must be available for after-hour snow/ice removal and other emergency work as needed.
