Job summary

The Kansas Department of Transportation in Colby, Kansas is seeking a dependable, trainable Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee to join our team. The role provides on-the-job training and exposure to highway maintenance operations.

Responsibilities include operating KDOT equipment, performing manual maintenance tasks, and supporting snow/ice operations. Off-hours and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's License at the time of appointment.
• CDL Class B with tanker and air brake endorsements.
• CDL Class A with tanker and air brake endorsements.
• A Class B CDL within 90 days; Class A within one year; CDL training provided at no cost.

Responsibilities

• Operates KDOT equipment including trucks, mowers, loaders.
• Performs highway maintenance tasks such as signs, fencing, guardrails, painting, patching, and litter pickup.
• Receives training in equipment operation and maintenance and highway repair methods.
• Participates in emergency operations during snow and ice control.
• May work additional hours, including nights and weekends.
