Job summary

The City of Great Falls is seeking a street maintenance worker to perform semi-skilled to skilled construction, maintenance and repair of the city’s street systems under the Street & Traffic Manager. You will set up traffic control, operate trucks and heavy equipment for snow removal and road repairs, and maintain public property in compliance with city codes.

Work requires safety-minded teamwork, physical stamina, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Qualifications

• Substantial knowledge of the use of power and hand tools.
• General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
• Working knowledge of tractor mounted flail mower, brush mower, and commercial weed-eater.
• Ability to follow verbal/written instructions, and maintain accurate written records.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
• General knowledge of Street Divisions Standard Operating Procedures and Best Management Practices.
• Ability to work safely and follow Safety Policies.

Responsibilities

• Sets up traffic control devices and equipment; shovel, rake and jackhammer asphalt and concrete; fill cracks and potholes in roads and streets.
• Operates trucks and heavy equipment in snow and ice removal, sanding operations and the hauling of materials to and from work sites.
• Involvement in all phases of street maintenance and repair.
• Maintains grass and weeds on public and private property to ensure compliance with City codes.
