Job summary

Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician to operate heavy trucks and equipment for Gallatin Gateway projects. This role includes culvert work, landslide removal, crack sealing, fence and bridge repairs, guardrail installation, and snow/ice control.

Housing at Big Sky is available. Applicants must hold a Montana CDL Class A with tank endorsement and MEC, have 1–3 years of road maintenance experience, and live within 45 miles of the work HQ.

Qualifications

• One year of experience driving heavy trucks or operating construction equipment.
• Valid Montana Commercial Driver's License (Class A) with no restrictions, a tank endorsement and MEC.
• Must live within 45 road miles of the work headquarters.
• Experience from a city/county/state highway department used for road maintenance.
• Eligible for placement up to Maintenance Technician Level III based on relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks and heavy equipment for highway maintenance.
• Perform culvert placement/cleaning, landslide removal, crack/mastic sealing, fence/building, or bridge repair.
• Maintain roadway markings, vegetation, and roadside areas.
• Snow and ice control as needed.
• Driver’s record will be verified and state vehicle-use rules apply.
