Job summary

The City of Montrose is seeking a Street Cleaning Operator to perform routine street cleaning and operate a variety of heavy equipment, including dump trucks and street sweepers. The role supports vehicle and pedestrian safety while protecting storm water quality.

You will work under general direction and may train seasonal staff. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, with experience in public works operations preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in public works operations is preferred.
• Knowledge of standard construction practices related to transportation and storm drain systems.
• Non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine street cleaning for vehicle and pedestrian safety.
• Clean debris from ditches, culverts, and creek beds; haul trash and debris to disposal sites.
• Participate in snow removal; operate dump trucks with plow and sander.
• Install and maintain traffic control devices and know MUTCD regulations.
• Operate a range of heavy equipment and conduct daily safety checks.
• Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance and inspections.
• Where needed, assist in automated trash and recycling collection duties.
