Job summary

Staunton City & Schools Public Works-Streets in Staunton, VA is seeking an Equipment Operator I – Street Sweeper Operator to join the Streets Division. Requires a high school diploma and at least 1 year of experience with motorized maintenance equipment; a Virginia CDL Class B (or ability to obtain within 6 months) is required.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience operating motorized maintenance equipment.
• Public works experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates street sweeper and related heavy equipment to clean city streets and parking areas.
• Inspects and services equipment daily (fluid levels, filters, lubrication).
• Clears debris from curbs and stormwater inlets during sweeping operations.
• Performs manual labor as needed.
• Maintains logs of routes, mileage, and maintenance.
• Assists with snow and ice removal operations as required.
• Reports hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
