Job summary

City of Montrose is seeking a Street Maintenance Operator to perform heavy manual labor and operate a broad range of equipment for the repair and construction of city streets and storm drain systems. The role requires adherence to safety standards and the ability to work with the public in a courteous manner.

Responsibilities include pothole repair, gravel work, snow removal, traffic control setup, and routine vehicle inspections.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by specialized training in construction and maintenance technology of public streets.
Experience performing public works operations, construction and maintenance work in the assigned area.
Knowledge of standard construction practices relating to transportation and storm drain systems.
Non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Perform heavy manual labor and operate a wide variety of equipment for street repair, maintenance and construction.
Patch potholes with asphalt, spread gravel, clean and grade streets, remove snow, and maintain storm drains.
Train lower level street maintenance workers and seasonal employees.
Operate equipment such as dump trucks, water trucks, backhoes, street sweepers, snowplows and more; perform safety checks.
