Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a skilled equipment operator to handle heavy construction machinery and support city maintenance of streets and right of way. You will operate backhoes, loaders, skid steers and related equipment, performing routine servicing and minor repairs as needed.

Eligible candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid Texas driver license, and be prepared to obtain a CDL within one year of hire; a physical exam is required for employment.

Qualifications

• Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with a preference of experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment.
• Valid TX Driver License.
• CDL within one year of hire.
• Physical Exam Required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and service equipment and trucks.

Job description

Operates and services the heavier types of construction equipment such as backhoe (less than 5 feet), mower, dump truck, front end loader, skid steer, salt spreaders and other construction equipment of comparable size and complexity.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with a preference of experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

• Valid TX Driver License
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) within one year of hire
• Physical Exam Required

Knowledge of:

• Operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment typically used in construction or maintenance activities.

Ability to:

• Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely to assist in maintenance of streets, alleyways and maintain other city right of way;
• Perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment;
• Make field repairs;
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Assist during times of inclement weather running snow equipment during Emergency Operations
• Ability to be on call after the hours on a rotational basis.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
• Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds;
• Walk and stand during a shift;
• Climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles and inclined surfaces;
• Continuously push and pull objects;
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
• Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
• Reach above, at or below shoulder height;
• Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate motorized vehicles and machinery.
