Qualifications

• Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in buying and selling scrap.
• Knowledge of sources and grades of raw materials; some knowledge of transport issues and scrap yard operations.
• Strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams; maintain high ethical standards and work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Recruit new supply sources for scrap in the local regional market.
• Procure scrap metals within established policies and procedures.
• Maintain relationships with current suppliers and seek new sources to meet objectives.
• Support commercial practices to ensure fair, ethical supplier relationships.
• Stay updated on market trends and competitive activities to meet mill needs.
• Provide information to management to help develop cost avoidance and savings opportunities.
• Serve as liaison between plant management and scrap suppliers.
• Review shipment status and adjust to ensure timely receipt of goods.
• Resolve discrepancies related to grading, weight settlement, and orders with vendors and operations.
