Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking a Scrap Buyer II to procure retail scrap for steelmaking, executing plans to maximize return while maintaining ethical supplier relations. The role requires 2–3 years of relevant experience with 1 year in buying/selling scrap, plus knowledge of scrap grades and transport issues.

You will travel weekly and coordinate with yard, transportation, scrap inspection and accounting teams to ensure cost‑effective sourcing.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of relevant experience with 1 year in buying/selling scrap.
• Knowledge of sources and grades of raw materials and basic transportation issues.
• Strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Recruit new supply sources for scrap in the local regional market.
• Primarily responsible for the procurement of scrap metals.
• Maintain relationships with current suppliers and seek new sources to meet procurement objectives.
• Support commercial practices to ensure fair, ethical relationships with suppliers.
• Stay abreast of market trends and competition to meet needs of operations.
• Provide information to management and Transportation to help cost avoidance and savings.
• Serve as liaison between plant management and scrap suppliers.
• Review scrap order shipment status weekly and adjust to ensure timely receipt.
