Job summary

Gerdau is seeking a Scrap Buyer II to procure retail scrap for steelmaking, reporting to the Regional Raw Materials Manager. You will execute the plan to maximize return while controlling costs and maintaining ethical supplier relationships.

You will build a network of scrap sources, evaluate material quality, and coordinate with yard, transport, and accounting teams. Regular weekly travel is required to meet procurement objectives.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in scrap procurement, with at least 1 year directly buying/selling scrap.
• Knowledge of sources and grades of raw materials and some transportation/scrap-yard operations.
• Strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel weekly to supplier sites.

Responsibilities

• Recruit new supply sources for scrap in the local regional market.
• Procure scrap metals and manage supplier relationships.
• Maintain relationships with current suppliers and source new materials.
• Ensure fair, ethical, and productive relationships with suppliers.
• Monitor market trends and competitive practices to meet needs.
• Provide information to management to develop cost avoidance opportunities.
• Serve as liaison between plant management and scrap suppliers.
• Review scrap order shipments and ensure timely receipt.
• Coordinate issue resolution with vendors and operations personnel.
• Maintain procurement system literacy and vendor documentation.
