Job summary

Gerdau North America in Sikeston, Missouri seeks a Scrap Buyer II to procure retail scrap for steelmaking, building strong supplier relationships and maximizing procurement value. The role requires travel to maintain an effective supplier network and to support regional operations.

The candidate should have 2–3 years of relevant experience, with at least 1 year directly related to buying/selling scrap, and be adept at negotiating, math, and problem-solving to ensure ethical, productive supplier

Qualifications

2-3 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year in buying/selling scrap.
Knowledge of sources and grades of raw materials, including transportation issues and scrap yard operations.
Self-starter with ability to initiate business and work independently.
Strong negotiating, communication, math and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in cross-functional teams and travel regularly.

Responsibilities

Recruit new supply sources for scrap in the local and regional market.
Procure scrap metals in a cost-effective manner.
Maintain relationships with current suppliers and seek new sources.
Monitor current market trends and regional scrap activity.
Provide information to management to develop cost avoidance and savings opportunities.
Serve as liaison between yard personnel and scrap suppliers.
Review order shipment status weekly and ensure timely receipt of goods.
Address scrap quality issues with vendors and shippers as needed.
Coordinate procurement systems and resolve issues with administrative staff.
