Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Research Initiatives Associate to advance institutional research competitiveness through capacity building and strategic partnerships. The role emphasizes collaboration with proposal development teams, interdisciplinary initiatives, and external grant opportunities.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and communication skills, customer service orientation, and the ability to work independently and in a team within a fast-paced university

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant science field with four years of research or grant/proposal experience, or a Master's with two years.
• Highly proficient in spreadsheet management, data collection and data presentation using Office or Google Workspace.
• Preferred PhD in a related field and experience with grant writing and academic research environments.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate interdisciplinary research initiatives and capacity building with proposal teams.
• Provide strategic support for high-value grant proposals and external collaborations.
• Support Government Relations activities to align research strengths with funding mechanisms.
• Develop partnerships with national labs, industry, agencies and community orgs.
• Produce strategic intelligence briefs, landscape reports and RFIs for campus stakeholders.
• Represent OR&I in meetings and workshops and manage multiple projects concurrently.
