Job summary

The Office of Strategic Research Initiatives at Stony Brook University seeks an Associate Director to translate research intelligence into actionable strategy, build multi-institutional consortia, and expand engagement with specialized, mission-driven funding streams. The role requires strategic leadership, and experience with executive‑level portfolio management across campuses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree; 5 years in research development, strategy, or proposals, grants, and contracts.
• 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience across teams.
• Experience building high-level relationships with agencies, contractors and industry partners.
• Master’s degree preferred in a relevant field; experience with research intelligence software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Translate research intelligence into actionable strategy and drive multi-institutional consortia.
• Build and steward alliances with sponsors, national labs, and industry partners.
• Oversee research intelligence infrastructure, tracking legislation, budgets, and agency spending trends.
• Supervise OSRI staff and coordinate with offices such as Proposal Development, Core Facilities, and IP Partners.
• Ensure outputs deliver actionable recommendations for campus leadership and funding opportunities.
