Job summary

The Galveston Park Board of Trustees seeks a Head of Special Projects to transform big ideas into reality across departments and with city leaders. You will coordinate high-priority initiatives, develop plans, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion.

Ideal candidates bring strong project management, relationship-building, and analytical skills, and can handle multiple priorities while communicating effectively with executives and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Project Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Communications, Planning, or related field.
• Experience managing complex projects, strategic initiatives, or cross-functional work.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with executive leadership.
• Ability to independently research unfamiliar topics and develop actionable recommendations.
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder-management skills.
• Coordinate work across departments without direct supervisory authority.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management and collaboration tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead high priority strategic and special projects from research through implementation.
• Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, deliverables, and tracking tools.
• Coordinate projects across Park Board departments and stakeholders.
• Monitor progress, identify next steps, and keep projects moving forward.
• Identify risks, dependencies, and decisions requiring executive attention.
• Provide updates and recommendations to executive leadership.
• Build relationships with City officials, business leaders, and stakeholders.
• Represent the Park Board in meetings and project discussions.
• Coordinate stakeholder meetings, presentations, and follow-up activities.
• Conduct research on programs, partnerships, and funding opportunities.
• Evaluate feasibility, costs, and organizational impact.
• Prepare reports and materials to support executive decisions.
• Manage multiple complex projects and priorities.
