Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Commodities Buyer for a contract-to-hire role based in Sugar Land, TX. The position focuses on procuring materials, negotiating terms, and ensuring supplier performance to meet production needs.

You will manage supplier relationships, monitor market trends, and drive cost reduction through competitive bidding and process improvements. Onsite work in Sugar Land, with extensive collaboration across departments and procurement teams.

Qualifications

• Project management experience required.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• SAP experience highly preferred.
• Ability to work independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Expertise in negotiating cost, terms, and conditions.
• Excellent computer skills – MRP/ERP, MS Office.
• Extensive experience in running procurement competitions as part of cost reduction initiatives.
• Expertise in supplier performance management related to cost, schedule, and quality.
• Expertise in inventory management strategies.

Responsibilities

• Procure materials at favorable costs and terms.
• Maintain supplier relationships and monitor market trends.
• Negotiate contracts and review opportunities to save costs.
• Prepare purchase orders and resolve price, delivery, or invoice issues.
• Mentor the Assistant Buyer and support career development.
• Collaborate with stakeholders on new projects and procurement initiatives.
• Stay current on supply and demand changes affecting procurement.
